⁶ And his father had never rebuked him at any time by asking, “Why have you done so?” And he was also a very handsome man, and ^[a](A)he was born after Absalom. ⁷ Now ^[b]he had conferred with ^(B)Joab the son of Zeruiah and with ^(C)Abiathar the priest; and they allied themselves with ^(D)Adonijah. ⁸ But ^(E)Zadok the priest, ^(F)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, ^(G)Nathan the prophet, ^(H)Shimei, Rei, and ^(I)the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
